The Page

Once Removed is a free kinship calculator published by PaintedApp, LLC. It names a blood relationship from the generations each person climbs to a shared ancestor, draws the small tree, and prints the coefficient of relationship, the expected shared DNA, and the civil and canon degrees. Using it needs no account and costs nothing. By using the page you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, please do not use it.

Counts, Not Advice

The degrees of kinship on the page are counts made by two published methods, the civil count and the older canon-law count. They are not legal advice. Whether a marriage, an inheritance or any other legal question turns on a degree is a matter for the law that governs it, and for a lawyer who practises that law where you live.

The DNA figures are an expectation computed from the coefficient of relationship and a range observed across many families by the Shared cM Project. They describe populations. They are not a test of parentage or of any single relationship, and they are not medical or genetic-counselling advice. A testing company's own report, or a genetic counsellor, is the place for a question about one family.

Accuracy

Every name and number on the page is computed from cited sources, and the page lists those sources and the tests that check it against them. We work to keep it right, and the page is still provided as it is, without any warranty that it is free of error or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, PaintedApp, LLC is not liable for a decision made on the page's figures.
